8 things we love about the new Museum of Discovery and Science

Ben Crandell for the Sun Sentinel outlines his eight favorite things about the new EcoDiscovery Center designed by C7A for the Museum of Discovery & Science in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

This  34,000-square-foot addition, which nearly doubles the size of the existing science museum, was designed by architects Cambridge Seven Associates. C7A also completed the master plan and exhibit design for the new Otters at Play and the Everglades Airboat Adventure.

Crandell’s favorite things about the new Museum of Discovery & Science EcoDiscovery Center addition include: the new river otter exhibit, the Everglades Airboat Adventure, a 20-person airboat simulator complete with motion, sound effects, and water spray that gives visitors the experience of riding through the Florida Everglades, and the glowing glass box that serves as a beacon for the museum:

“This second-story glass box faces Broward Boulevard and, intersected with strips of colored LED light, at night will bring a beckoning presence to a nondescript stretch of one of Fort Lauderdale’s main drags. It’s a simple but thoughtful design flourish that will quickly become a defining downtown landmark.”
